For Our March Special Event Dive Trip Our Dive Team Arranged a Special Dive Trip Down to Near the by Samae san Islands, Our Dive Site Destination, Hin Chalarm!

Hin Charlarm, or Shark Rock as it is translated from Thai, is in the top 5 coral reef dive sites in pattaya Scuba Diving Menu.

This is another dive site accessed from Samae san pier and travelling towards the open gulf of Thailand,   straight south of Koh Chuang Island.  Off on the horizon lays small rock islet, this is Hin Chalarm. This rock if well known to fisherman for Sharks such as Blacktips, bamboo sharks and every once in a while whale sharks too!  Once you descend down below the surface, its a coin flip of what amazing aquatic life you can find here!

Hin Charlam, One Of The Best Dive Sites Near Pattaya!

Dive in Pattaya and you have to ask about diving at Hin Chalarm. Not visited all to often on the normal daily dive plans, Hin Chalarm is slightly off the beaten track but although it not visited so much is it hardly forgotten! This relatively tiny rock, some 1.5hours from samae san pier drop offs, you can still find yourself wandering into new areas at points as the reef leads to other formations and smaller out crops and min reefs not apparent from the surface topography. We had two amazing dives here on this special dive in Pattaya.

The Dive Plan

First dive was a nice easy shallow descent on the north side ‘bay’. With some mild current running from surface observations, this point of entry directly above the shallow north reef area is perfect and still. We navigated east towards the corner rock formations into a deeper area to about 18m on the corner where we chilled out around the anemones and clown fish, before turning the dive back the way we came. We then headed to the opposite front corner where the wall drop downs begin which meet the bottom at about 16m deep. The viz was much better on this side of the dive site and we could clearly down about 15m to the soft coral on the coral reef line.  There are also a number of giant red barrel sponges and anemones all over the underwater structures on this side too, but its best to focus on the wall as you progress down deeper, however we turned and came back to the boat after an epic 60 min multi level dive.

After lunch and our surface Interval we moved the boat to the South side of Hin Chalarm, This time on the South eastern point we descended onto the deep reef side. We worked our way around towards the north eastern side all the way along you find a rich mixtures of hard corals and rocky walls which bank down to 20+m. This side of the dive sight was where the action was this day, with heaps of schooling fusilier fish, jacks and barracudas. Our dive team took it nice and slow and we had many nice encounters with Giant Puffer Fish, Blue spot stingrays, Moray eels and many nudibranch.  We also observed many cowrie shells in and around giant sea fan, coral whips and soft corals as we navigated towards our ascent point near by the Cave. The Cave is a nice point of interest and always worth checking out, although it cant be penetrated, it always worths swimming in the check the overhang as giant marble rays have been known to sleep inside.  The colour and variety of marine life on this side of dive site was just simply fantastic and it was sad to ascend after such a long and relaxing dive!
